ARTIST

Barbara Whitbourn is a self-taught artist who has also studied at Newlyn Art School in Cornwall. Abstraction is a passion for her, the space left for the viewer to construct their understanding of the painting and emotional connection to it.
Her love of rusting metals, erosion and the built environment have led her into abstracted landscape.
Her abstracted landscapes in acrylic, oil and mixed media are inspired by the more wild and remote parts of the country. Her work reflects an emotional response to the natural erosion of the landscape and this shows through in her use of many transparent layers and texture, often incorporating gold leaf into her paintings.

The photograph below shows Barbara at work in Foggintor Quarry on Dartmoor.
